Subject: Notebook: heat
another consideration for a bed laptop is the heat. many models are
unsafe when used on a blanket. so high performance is a liability for
this application. my machine is a couple of years old but i chose a
notebook low power size for both heat and battery life, a Fujitsu with
Transmeta processor. i understand that AMD and Intel now offer models
addressing this concern, so spending more money for a higher-performance
machine is perhaps unwise for this application. and low end graphics
should be fine and use less power here as well. i don't have perfect
vision, but chose a notebook size even with the small screen and smaller
keyboard and use the screen closer to my face than some would. the
screen has the same resolution as larger screens, so running 4 visible
terminals on each workspace is very readable for me.
always a lot of parameters to trade off when choosing a complex device
like a laptop.
