Swiss Army Memory

Today is my birthday and I got a Swiss Army Knife.  One of the blades is
a 1Gbyte USB memory card.  

How can I get Linux to know about USB memory cards?  OK, this is mostly
to start waking you all up for the new observing season, but I would
like to know.  Running Mandriva 10.1 (latest Mandriva version)
