RE: iraf & DS9 on a redhat system

To CW and anyone else with this problem.

Dave Mills dmills@noao.edu runs something called "The Random Factory".  He has published a multi CD set that contains everything you might want in the way of astronomy software.  "Linux for Astronomy" The neat thing about this set is that it contains an installer that just works.  I forget the cost, but it is not much.  If you value your time at more than 2 cents an hour it is probably worth the cost.

I don't know for sure as I used Mandrake 9.0 but the whole set up is transparent to the system, I think.

Subject: iraf & DS9 on a redhat system

Hi there:

I'm trying to install IRAF, DS9, and GUIAPPS on a linux RedHat system (9.0)

I've changed the shell, setenv, set up the files and  gotten to the place where the
install script will run without errors (except for the display part),  and I can launch DS9 from the
desktop, but I can't figure out how to get IRAF to find DS9 and use it during the
./install script, any suggestions?

Next, I'm trying to get GUIAPPS to work, any traps I should look out for.

Thanks
