One way to make stuff like this easy for people who don't
know SQL well is to define some "views". A "view" is a kind
of "psuedo table" A database programmer writes a Select
statement that, say, selects out the top 100 cadidates.
This table does not actually exist but still you can check
a table called "top100" periodically to see what's in it.
The trick to using databases is to stop thinking like a
programmer and start thinging like a mathamatician.
Programers think in terms of step one, step two then if
blaahblah do step three. While mathamatician are more
used to thinking "All x such that f(x) not in y and..."
Thinking in terms of set theory and contraint, I think is
a more productive way to find things
