working near the poles: new version 0.7 of "match"
I have played with the "match" package (which tries to perform
astrometry on a list of stars detected in an image), testing it
on images taken at the North and South Celestial Poles. There
was indeed a bug in its coordinate transformations, which improperly
yielded Dec values of -89.9 near the _North_ Celestial Pole.
I've fixed the code so that it gives values between +89 and +90
for images near the NCP, and values between -90 and -89 for images
near the SCP. The error wasn't in the "match" program itself,
but in the "apply_match" program.
The fixed "apply_match" program appears in version 0.7 of the
"match" package, which you can find at
http://acd188a-005.rit.edu/match/
Tom, whenever you get the time, please try replacing your current
version of "match" with the new one, and then running on data
taken near the NCP.
