  The NASA Astronomical Data Service has a WWW site which helps one
to search for papers in the technical journals.  Go to:

       http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abstract_service.html

If I type "Schaefer" into the "Author" box, and "1989" into the year
boxes (both start and end), I get a list of articles.  One of them
is "Flashes from Normal Stars".  When I click on that item, I am
shown a page with the Abstract to the paper, plus additional 
information.  Because this is a relatively old article, there is
a scanned copy of the paper on-line for everyone to read; choose
the "Full Refereed Scanned Article" item.  There are options to 
download the entire article instead of looking at one page at
a time.

  Some newer articles are NOT available to everyone, but only to
subscribers to individual journals.  You will find out pretty quickly
which publishers are least willing to share.  

  Sometimes, you can read the text of an article by using a computer
at an institution which subscribes to the journal.  If you have
legal access to a computer at a university or big lab somewhere, 
going through their computers may allow you to read text that
is not available to you directly.
