While this is certainly true for shortish data strings,
I have to disagree with it in the long run. One of the 
real opportunities for on-going surveys like TASS is to 
find and characterize multimode stars. Such beasts are 
known to exist near the main sequence. They don't phase 
up with a single period all that well.

To begin to be useful, a few hundred points are necessary.
Several thousand isn't too many. There are unanswered
questions about the stability of discovered periods in
multimode stars, so there is really no practical upper
limit to the number of useful points!
