Code Needed

Can anyone suggest a code for extracting the period and anything else 
possible for short period variable stars?

As you all know, the present data is taken in two hour chunks separated by 
days to weeks.  One can look at the data and see that it is periodic.  I 
gather this is called a phase diagram in the biz.  So what is needed is 
some sort of transform that takes irregularly spaced data and produces the 
curves I see in astronomy papers.

It appears that many stars appear in two to seven evening's runs.  one 
would hope that such codes are more powerful in digging signal out of noise 
than just looking at the plotted points.

I would (I think) prefer a perl code because I can then get in and muck 
with it when I have a problem.
