Also, do you have a list of original file names? I can not get them from
the CDs. It seems the TRANS.TBL file has gone missing, leaving only 8+3
file names. :(
I am copying this to the list since this may be a general problem. OK,
when I look at a directory with my Linux machine, I get a bunch of files
with names like ????????? and then some files with proper names
hvrzxxxxxxx.fits
Using Windows (Ugh!) Explorer I get all the proper file names just like I
expected.
I am able to read the files just fine with DS9 on the Windows machine. The
DS9 directory comes up with the proper file names. Anyone seen this problem?
Further, I have been looking at 18e trying to find a bad file. So far I
have read every file on 18e that I tried. I just picked a random disk 18e
off my desk. The directory looks as it should in DS9 and comes up with an
image. I don't know any good way to check the whole file.
Possibly try reading the disk on a good machine with Windows installed as
god intended.
Most of these disks were recorded using xcdroast on the Linux machine in
the copy on the fly mode. Some were copied on a Windows 98 machine. The
original data was taken and written on a Windows 95 machine.

All of them Tom. I even rebuilt Linux with Joliet, but still no change.
As it is, with each disk having the same names, I can't just copy the
lot off for processing. Not a big deal.
As to the flats, perhaps you could do a set of 'dome flats' and combine
them into a master we could ftp.
