The following explanation of format copied from Patrick's note on known variables

I have tried to match GCVS stars (December 2001 version from the GCVS website) with the results from wsv3.pl on DS23. Stars separated by not more than 1' and not too faint were declared a match. Positions for some stars in the GCVS are in error by 3' and more (although not as many as used to be), so not all stars from DS23 which are designated variables will appear (I think e.g. XY Tau may be one of those). Also, it means that there may be misidentifications.

The lists below give the star number from the collected.big file, average V and I magnitude, WS-statistic, the distance to the designated star in arc seconds, and the designated star with type, magnitude and period details (when available). Here is the list:

Some time ago, I gave a list of possible identifications of DS23 objects with the GCVS and NSV, but only for those objects with 30 observations or more. As an attachment I give a complete list for all objects of DS23. The respective columns in the data are: object number from collected.big, number of observations, average V, average V-I, distance to GCVS-NSV star, and GCVS/NSV details.

The GCVS positions of the variables in the constellations And to Lep and also Ori, have been determined more precisely than for the other constellations. Therefore for these constellations, the distance should be less than 10" to have a match. For the other constellations and the NSV, distances up to 1' have been allowed. Stars where the magnitude evidently does not correspond, have been removed, and also WX CMi has been removed from this list.

I have added some other (suspected) variables as well, basically from Kato's newvar.cat, buth with the specialized lists left out.
