Efficiency of finding "newvar.cat" variable stars

I have compared the output of wsv3.pl with the newvar.cat catalog of Taichi Kato on VSNET, ftp://ftp.kusastro.kyoto-u.ac.jp/pub/vsnet/others/newvar.cat, to within 1', and these are the results:

From an earlier message describing file format

I have tried to match GCVS stars (December 2001 version from the GCVS website) with the results from wsv3.pl on DS23. Stars separated by not more than 1' and not too faint were declared a match. Positions for some stars in the GCVS are in error by 3' and more (although not as many as used to be), so not all stars from DS23 which are designated variables will appear (I think e.g. XY Tau may be one of those). Also, it means that there may be misidentifications.

The lists below give the star number from the collected.big file, average V and I magnitude, WS-statistic, the distance to the designated star in arc seconds, and the designated star with type, magnitude and period details (when available). Here is the list:

Some of them you have already identified before. Not all of these stars are really suspected variables as far as I know, they are simply taken from specialised catalogs. There are some overlaps with other catalogs as well (e.g. the star at the top of the list is UY Mon). I haven't figured out what the ISV stands for, but then this star is NSV 3434. The other denominations used are:

So, TASS "proves" a lot of these stars to be really variables. I haven't gone through the list properly, so there may be some interesting things still lurking.
