# From Brian Skiff, Mar 13, 2003 # # The list below gives improved coordinates and identifications for 161 # red stars from the Byurakan spectral survey in the zone +01 to +13 Dec. # The source files were recently posted to the Strasbourg VizieR site. The # list was not worked over critically by the authors (they perhaps do not have # the resources), so the revision here should make the stars more useful for # others. # Besides several astrometric catalogues, I matched the list in VizieR # against the GSC, IRAS point-, faint-, and serendipitous-source catalogues # (as a check on the original work), and # the MSX, Dearborn red stars, TASS MkIII, and GCVS v4.1 catalogues. # Each position was then searched in SIMBAD (3' search # radius) to look for IDs and other information, which is condensed in the table # and notes that follow. # Two stars were not recovered, one evidently due to a typo in the # original position and the other almost certainly spurious and due to a # plate flaw. The authors gave photo-red magnitudes from USNO-A2.0. I have # replaced these with V or R data if available from better sources, but most # of the stars have no accurate photometry. Several other typos were # corrected. # I have changed the form of the spectral types to conform to ordinary # usage, viz. compressing the M-type temperatures classes to 'slash' types in # the style of the Houk catalogues; this form is used as an indicator of # uncertainty, not a range in types. All the carbon star candidates are given # simply as 'C', omitting the N or R subtype distinction.
